USS Nimitz CVN-68 Trip of a Lifetime

My trip of chance and will never forget. I became a volunteer for my husband squadron. The Black Aces VFA-41, Wow I, became a Ombudsman {Liaison} 1 of 3. I was so excited, The Skipper was the one that planed it. So, a load of ombudsman from different squadron's drove to San Diego, Ca. We all stayed on Coronado Island at the BEQ {Officers barracks}. We all had our own rooms, They were like little apt., living rm., kitchen, it was nice. That night we went and had dinner at Tomasos Italian Restorante. Wow, Delicious. It was awesome. The next morning we left to catch the C-2 COD plane. We all had to put on a cranial, float coat and goggles. We, also had to where hearing protection. The loading door was left open and we were buckled in. It was so exciting and super scary {I'd do it again in a heart beat}. We took off up in the air, It as though we were shooting straight up like a rocket, WOW!! So, We flew out into the Pacific Ocean to fly aboard the USS Nimitz. We past the ship and came around to land on the ship it felt and sounded like we crashed landed. They hand signaled us to hurry off the C-2 COD plane. We all rushed off the plane into, "The Admirals Ward Room". I was trying , So hard to just stand straight. I was feeling nauseous, Everything was swaying back and forth. I was feeling green. Some of the other Ladies were dropping like flies. We took Dramamine for the nausea. I got to go inside the bubble and watch the jets hit the deck and shoot off. I was so cool to watch from the floor of the deck.We stayed in the State rooms for our sleep over. It was hard to sleep with all the jets taking off and landing. The room was very cold no rug just stainless steel floor. We ate lunch at the CO mess it was very nice. We went out on the cat walk and looked out at the ocean and jets. I also visited the Chapel and library. We ate dinner in the Chow Hall. The food was Delicious. I was so excited with everything, I told my Husband , I wanted to join the Navy. I meet the Admiral and the Captain, I also was invited to sit in the Captain seat. I didn't touch any thing and hurried out of the seat. It was all so exciting, I will never forget. Christine Hazard
